Tutorial Group & Mentors At The OASIS, we seek to develop independent-minded, self-reliant students with the skills and maturity to succeed in college and beyond, but we know that along the way our students appreciate a guiding hand.

To support each student, we have a strong advising program, which provides every student with a faculty Tutor. Under the responsibility of the Housemaster, our Tutor program matches each student with an adult in the community who is there to help them in various ways.

Students meet regularly with their Tutors to talk about their progress as well as discuss issues of interest and importance to the school community. Tutors assist boarding students and parents with every aspect of school life, from academic problems to social adjustments and personal difficulties. The relationships that develop between Tutors and Tutees may be some of the most important ones a student may have during their time at The OASIS.

The Mission of Our Pastoral Programme

The OASIS Pastoral Program seeks to promote growth in ways that transcend the classroom. Each student is matched with an adult on campus to whom they may turn for personal and academic guidance. By developing a personal relationship with each Tutee through individual and group meetings and by acting as a liaison between the school, the student, and the parent, we aim to foster a joy of learning, self-reliance, a sense of personal and social responsibility, responsible decision-maker, poise in the face of inevitable setbacks, strong values and ethics, and

academic and personal success.

Pastoral care in a residential school like The OASIS plays a crucial role in nurturing students’ holistic development, ensuring they excel academically and grow as individuals equipped to navigate life’s challenges. Let’s delve into the touch of professionalism and advantages of pastoral care:

Professionalism in Pastoral Care:

  1. Structured Support System: The appointment of faculty tutors under the supervision of the Housemaster signifies a structured approach to pastoral care. Each tutor is responsible for a group of students, ensuring personalised attention and guidance.
  2. Qualified Mentors: By assigning adult members of the community as Housemasters and tutors, the school ensures students have access to experienced mentors who can provide valuable insights and support. The House Matron in the residential wing takes care of hygiene and is also like a mother to children.
  3. Regular Meetings: Scheduled meetings between students and their tutors reflect a commitment to regular communication and monitoring of student progress. This professional approach ensures that issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
  4. Liaison Role: Tutors serve as liaisons between the school and students, and parents, facilitating open communication and collaboration to address any challenges or concerns that may arise. This professional coordination fosters a supportive environment conducive to student well-being.

Advantages of Pastoral Care:

  1. Individualised Support: Matching each student with a dedicated tutor fosters individualised support tailored to their unique needs, ensuring that students receive personalised guidance and assistance.
  2. Holistic Development: The pastoral programme extends beyond academic support to encompass personal and social development. Through mentorship and guidance, students are encouraged to develop essential life skills such as self-reliance, responsible decision-making, and social responsibility.
  3. Emotional Support: Tutors provide a safe space for students to discuss personal issues and challenges, fostering emotional well-being and resilience. The relationships formed between tutors and students serve as crucial sources of support during times of difficulty.
  4. Character Formation: The emphasis on fostering strong values, ethics, and resilience contributes to the formation of well-rounded individuals with a sense of integrity and character, preparing them for success in college and beyond.
  5. Academic Success: By addressing academic challenges and providing academic guidance, the pastoral programme helps students achieve their full potential academically, laying the foundation for future success.

The professionalism and advantages of pastoral care at The OASIS reflect a commitment to nurturing holistic development of students, providing them with the support, guidance and skills necessary to thrive academically, socially and personally.
