Little Einsteins (Science club)

It is the science club for the children of class 6, 7 and 8. It is an experiment-based programme that teaches the fundamental concepts of science through experimentation, observation and conceptual understanding and not by memorizing. To pique the curiosity of the students, several questions are included after each experiment.

The students are encouraged to work in groups rather than as individuals to facilitate peer and self- learning. The students also participate in a Science exhibition each year where models created by them will be displayed and explained.

It is the club that will nourish a lifelong love for learning in all our students.

It will develop self- esteem, creative thinking, team work and to understand “how to think… rather than, what to think which will help them prepare for future challenges.

Book Club

Book Club gives opportunity to the students to share their love of books and reading . It also helps to create a strong reading culture in our school.

Through the book club students will learn to read at a higher level and foster analytical thinking. They will also use evidence to support opinions, develop emotional intelligence, empathy and creativity, organise and manage their time, articulate and share ideas

A wide variety of work by the following authors will be discussed – Enid Blyton, J.K. Rowling, Ruskin Bond, Geronimo Stilton. Interest in reading will be developed through various activities like book talk, making of book marks, book quiz and also designing book covers.

Junior Chefs (Cooking)

Cooking with children is the best way to teach principles of good nutrition and encourage healthy balanced eating habits for life. In the junior chefs activity the children will learn different types of cooking and experience new varied dimensions. Studies show that children are more likely to try new foods when they have a hand in preparing them. The kitchen offers abundant lessons in basic chemistry (discovering how certain ingredients combine, react and change as they cook) as well as arithmetic (amounts and fractions) thus making it an integrated learning experience.

Wushu (Martial Arts and Tai-Chi)

  • The word Wushu comes from a combination of two Chinese words: WU means ‘war’ and SHU means ‘arts’.
  • Wushu is derived from Chinese martial arts. It is played in numerous styles; with weapons or with bare hands.
  • Two or more persons play wushu.
  • There are two prominent types of Wushu:
    • Sanda
      In this type of Wushu, the participants wrestle with each other using Wushu moves. Like kicking, punching and throwing.
    • Taolu
      It involves a seamlessly connected set of hand, leg, sweep, jumps, stance, and footwork choreographed and styled according to the principles of attack and defense.
      At The OASIS the students will learn the martial art form as well as will be trained in basic self-defense.

The Deb Soc (Debating and Public Speaking)

A debate society gives students a chance to develop their oratory skills. With the help of different activities, The OASIS Deb Soc will enable students to become confident speakers and great thinkers. It will also help students to become more informed about political and global affairs, and provide a platform for preparation of debates and declamations at state level and national level.

There will be a variety of experiences for students including extempore, group discussion, individual debate, elocution, balloon debate and active/ passive rebuttals.

The entire experience of learning to debate and speak up will help them to shed their fears of public speaking and will enable them to have a bright future ahead.

Indian Classical Vocal (Hindustani Music)

The Indian music is one of the ancient musical traditions. It is divided in two important genres of Indian music are hindustani music and carnatic music.

Hindustani music is based on seven sudha swar and these swar sub – divided as ‘Teevra’ and ‘Komal’ these swar help to make Raag and the Raag is the backbone of Hindustani music. A raag means a sequence of melodious swaras that fit in a framework of certain rules.

At The Oasis we have introduced Indian music, where children will learn basics of Hindustani music and also the other forms of music like semi classical, folk music and light music. Children start with sargam and Alankaar so that they are able to recognise swars and can improve their voice culture. They learn raag Yaman, Bilawal, Bhoopali, Bhairav and they also learn how to sing with different types of Taal. They learn different types of folk songs, bhajans, prayer songs and children songs so they can participate in various school functions and Inter house competitions.

Tip Tap Toe (Dance)

In the Tip Tap Toe activity children learn three types of dances – Folk dance where children learn different kinds of folk dances of India, Contemporary where children learn modern contemporary and classical ballet, Kathak where children learn tatkaar, tihai, kavitt ballet and abhinay (dance drama). Tip Tap Toe activity helps enable children to express their feelings and emotions in the form of dance.

Jukebox (Western Music)

‘Jukebox’ is an activity focused on training young musicians and equipping them with the musical and technical skills of instrument playing, singing, performance skills, sound engineering, song writing and composing. This activity helps the students to form a band, prepare short music videos, write and compose songs and most importantly to take music as a profession. So lets develop our Musical intelligence together in The Jukebox.

विमर्श (Hindi Debate and Public Speaking)

विमर्श एक ऐसा मंच है जिसके माध्यम से विद्यार्थी वाद-विवाद, काव्य, पटकथा लेखन, नाटक इत्यादि के माध्यम से मातृभाषा के साथ भावात्मक रूप से जुड़ कर हिंदी के विकास हेतु कार्य करेंगे।

नाट्यशाला (Dramatics)

” काव्येषु नाटकं रम्यं”काव्य में जो सबसे रमणीय है वह नाटक है। कुछ इस ही उक्ति को सार्थक करते हुए नाट्यशाला में भारतीय नाट्यशास्त्र की विविध विधाओ का समायोजन करते हुए आधुनिक परिवेश में छात्रों द्वारा मूर्त रूप प्रदान करना है।

Theatre and Drama

The objective of the theatre activity will be to use drama as a medium to develop various skills in students which will assist in their wholistic development.

Drama, in school, is important as it emphasises on doing rather than memorising. Integrating drama helps build connections to real life, teaching children to deal with life’s problems effectively. It engages students in creative problem solving and decision making. Students can use this as a medium to express emotions without being judged leading to psychological wellbeing. Drama is an essential tool to develop communication, cooperation, team building and social skills in students.

Quizzards

Quiz is a form of game or mind sport, in which the players (as individuals or in teams) attempt to answer questions correctly. It is a game to test knowledge about a certain subject. At The OASIS the Quizzards organise and train students to participate in internal as well as Inter school quiz competitions. The quizzes are on a variety of topics like Math, General Knowledge, current affairs, Science, etc.

Creative Hands (AWE- Art of Waste Experience)

In today’s world recycling has a very important place, this habit of getting the best out of waste should be instilled in children from an early age to make for a greener future, not only to teach them about recycling but also to encourage their creativity.

As children grow up, they have a wide variety of technology to handle around with eg. laptops, games, consoles, tablets and mobile phones.

Making the best out of waste has been a part of human life since the early ages. It was the human creative mind that gave birth to this extraordinary idea of using unwanted material in a useful way. Therefore, it becomes highly important to incorporate arts &crafts into their life at very young age.

Earth Care (Kitchen gardening/composting/animal care etc)

The earth is the only planet man can ever call home. Therefore, he must love and take care of it. This is the place where plants and animals thrive, its atmosphere and its terrain providing what man needs in order to live.. Earth care drive serve to remind people that it is not too late to care for the environment, we can prevent its further ruin by addressing the issues of pollution and global warming.

Yes, that’s everything and everyone! Imagine how different life on Earth might be if all tried taking on a little more time.

The Earth is a paradise and man should care about it in significant ways – big or small.

In the Earth Care activity the children will learn about gardening, rain water harvesting, composting, waste reduction, vertical gardening and also dairy farming.

Visual Arts

The need for visual literacy in the age of internet and social media brings heightend importance to the role of art education in society. School is playing the most important role to educate students . Art educator helps students build the recognition perception, sensitivity, imagination and integration skills needed to make sense of the world around them.

In visual arts activity the students will learn fabric painting, glass painting,pot painting. They will learn how to decorate and show their creativity and imagination skill. Apart from this they will do collage making with paper and colour, charcoal painting, calligraphy writing and spray painting.

In Focus

The photography activity for children will help them to develop skills to shoot the best photographs with different types of cameras like mobile cameras, Point and shoot cameras or a professional DSLR cameras. The children will also learn and practice about the correct exposure, manipulating light, Composition, Manual mode settings (Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO), white balance and more. They will learn about the technical aspects while shooting Portraits, Landscapes, Nature and Wild life, Sports, Macro, Time-lapse, Long exposure photography and much more. They will also explore different types of lenses, which are used with DSLR cameras. Moreover, they will learn to appreciate Mother Nature and their surroundings.

Pottery

Pottery activity at The OASIS will enable students to explore more than just creativity. It is going to help students enhance their motor skills. The clay has a soothing quality and helps calm the children and helps in enhancing their concentration as well. Besides, the pride that they will have in creating something all by themselves at the potter’s wheel will help enhance their self-esteem.

Film Appreciation

Film Appreciation is the art and technology of motion-picture photography. It involves techniques such as the general composition of a scene,the lighting of the set or location, the choice of cameras, lenses, filters, the camera angle and movements, and the integration of any special effects. It is the science or art of motion-picture photography by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation. In this activity the students will learn perfect judgement of light and angle, stability and how to edit the shot according to the requirement.
